Tew Son Spa at Kata Thani Beach Resort Phuket

Stepping out of the Tew Son Spa, Phuket after a two hour Asian Dream treatment is like walking out on air. In the words of my partner to the therapist, “she’s glowing, what the hell did they do to her in there!”

Located 25 minutes south of bustling Patong on Kata Noi beach and within the serene grounds of the Kata Thani Beach Resort on the island of Phuket in Thailand, the Tew Son Spa’s décor of warm browns and earthy tones certainly creates the perfect atmosphere.

At the spa, I was greeted by three Thai women in their traditional smiling and friendly manner. One of the young ladies promptly fetched me a strange tasting dark syrupy traditional drink which I have to admit didn’t really tickle my fancy. I took a sip but that’s about as far as I got. I’m sure it was meant to help sooth my body in preparation for absolute relaxing bliss.

After being asked to choose from four massage oils following small samples dabbled on my arm (I opted for one that reminded me of peppermint) and filling in a brief questionnaire I was promptly escorted to a very clean and ambient room where I was left to undress in privacy. There was soft, subtle African music playing in the background, which was just loud enough to create a wonderful relaxing and dreamlike mood.

I had selected the Asian Dream treatment which according to the brochure was a “complete relaxing experience” of one hour and 50 minutes. The treatment had the choice of any oil massage and facial treatment off the menu.

Regrettably I was never given the opportunity to choose either treatment as I would have ideally gone for a Thai style facial for something a little traditional and different. Having said that, this certainly didn’t detract from the overall treatment experience and I must say I would recommend the combination of the Swedish Aromatic Massage and the aromatherapy facial for almost two hours of tranquil heaven.

The treatment started with the oil massage which started on my legs and moved up my body. The massage was magic and incredibly sensual. At no time did I quince or feel uncomfortable or awkward and at all times I was respectfully draped with towels covering my wobbly bits. I must say I’m not much into hard, sports type massage and was a little apprehensive that this treatment might be similar to the $10 massage I had in Bangkok where I thought my arms were going to be ripped off! Thankfully, it was very relaxing and the therapist was spot-on when it came to how gentle and smooth she was in her massaging actions. She would only occasionally ask if I was “okay madam” but that was fine by me. I was there to be pampered, and pampered I was!

Following the 55 minute oil massage, the therapist turned her attention to my face. Using Lydia Jordane products, the aromatherapy facial was also very relaxing. As each facial treatment finished, a warm, pleasant smelling washer would strategically remove the product in preparedness for the next. During the tail end of the treatment, I was left alone in the room for about 10 minutes (although it could of been longer or shorter, I was in no state to be judging time!) to allow the cleanser to fully infiltrate my skin. I usually have sensitive skin that can sometime burn during some treatments but the products and the techniques did not cause any irritation or discomfort.

At the completion of the treatment, I was helped to sit up and left again to dress in privacy. Waiting patiently outside large wooden doors was my smiling therapist, who guided me back to the lobby where I enjoyed a hot ginger tea to toast to a wonderful experience. I not only felt completely relaxed but my skin glowed and I felt radiant and on top of the world.

If I did have one small gripe, it was that the room was not completely sound proof and at times I could hear the ladies in the front counter chatting with other clients as they greeted and farewelled their clients or gossiped amongst themselves. This somewhat distracted me from my world of relaxing bliss.
I was highly impressed with the Tew Son Spa, its ambience, cleanliness and the friendliness of its staff and would highly recommend it to people staying at the Kata Thani Beach Resort. The spa is of course open to clients from outside the resort but their main clientele is people lucky enough to be staying onsite.

The Kata Thani Beach Resort is the perfect destination for travellers wanting the relaxing Phuket experience without the hustle of Patong. The resort is located on the Kata Noi beach and the resort runs the full length of the beach.

The Kata Thani staff are incredibly friendly and will do anything to ensure you have the perfect stay. Across the road from the resort are a number of convenience stores, tailors and restaurants so you don’t have to travel to another beach to get small necessities or eat at the resort all of the time.

There is a choice of either a beach view room or a pool view room and the rooms are open plan, with a beautiful water feature the centre feature of the design. There are six swimming pools so you can choose to sit by the pool under the shade of an umbrella or head to the beach and pay 200 bhart (about six Aussie dollars) to the local people to use their umbrellas.

The sun sets over the beach so it is ideal to hit one of the cocktail bars located by the pools in the afternoon to enjoy this spectacle.
